Cartilage 3D bioprinting technology
The 3D Bioprinting technology field is still in the early stages of research and development. However, the field faces several challenges related to the right choice of material (bioink), cell types, the very sensitivity of the living cells and the biological functionality of the fabricated tissues. An important struggle exists between keeping a high accurate resolution while maintaining high cell viability in the bioprinting process.
RESTORE is improving cartilage bioprintability by optimising the bioink for human cartilage regeneration and stimulating developments on 3D Bioprinter technologies. By implementing novel printing modalities into bioprinting platforms, RESTORE wants to decrease the shear stress that occurs while printing, reducing stress-induced death and enabling the creation of cartilage constructs able to answer to specific geometry and biomechanical requirements of chondral defects.
