Svenja Stein research interests focus on the pre-clinical evaluation of biomaterials for various musculoskeletal applications and the suitability of different animal models in orthopaedic research. She has experience with small and large animal models for the in vivo assessment of scaffolds for meniscus, tendon, or joint replacement. Research activities of the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics at Ulm University Medical Centre focus on the understanding of the pathomechanisms of degeneration and diseases of the musculoskeletal system as well as on the development or improvement of novel therapeutical strategies. Thereby, the joint biomechanics group focusses on the functional restoration after meniscus and cartilage lesions. In RESTORE they will biomechanically characterize cartilage scaffolds and are responsible for preclinical testing.
